Heavy rain, thunderstorm warnings issued for several areas in Sarawak until 6pm (Jan 4)

KUCHING, Jan 4: Heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for several areas across Sarawak including Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Bintulu and Limbang.

In an advisory notice issued at 2.55pm, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicted heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the affected districts.

The warning is triggered when a thunderstorm with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour is expected to last for more than an hour.

Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for up to six hours per issuance.
