KUCHING, Sept 2: Heavy rain and strong winds wreaked havoc across several parts of Kuching city, with uprooted trees leading to severe traffic congestion around 4pm today.

In several posts shared by netizens on Sarawak Edition on social media, fallen trees were reported at Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Kampung Siol Kandis Petra Jaya, Medan Raya Petra Jaya (near Baitulmakmur building), Jalan Matang-Merdeka Interchange (beneath Satok Bridge), and Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub (along Normah Hospital).

These incidents resulted in massive traffic jams in the city, particularly in the Petra Jaya areas.

Following this, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) issued a statement, informing that cleaning works are being carried out immediately.

“Well done to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), DBKU officers, and all parties involved for taking swift action to deal with the issue of fallen trees and structures and ensuring traffic flow is controlled,” it said. — DayakDaily
