Heavy rain in western Sarawak to continue until tomorrow (Jan 13)

Weather warning issued by MetMalaysia as at 1pm of Jan 12.

KUCHING, Jan 12: Continuous heavy rains are expected to persist in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu including Kanowit, Mukah including Tanjung Manis and Daro as well as Kapit including Song until tomorrow (Jan 13).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an orange alert, the second-highest level warning on a three-tier scale, for continuous heavy downpour in these parts of Sarawak in a warning notice at 1pm today.

An orange alert is issued when there are signs of persisting bad weather with continuous rain as well as ongoing and expected thunderstorms with amount of rain above 60mm in a span of six hours.


The department also issued a yellow alert for continuous rain to be expected at Sibu including Selangau; Mukah including Matu and Dalat; Kapit including Bukit Mabong and Belaga; Bintulu; and Miri including Subis until Saturday (Jan 15).

A yellow alert is issued when there are signs of continuous rain as well as ongoing and expected thunderstorms to occur in an area for more than six hours. — DayakDaily
