MUKAH, April 30: A man was killed while five members of his family sustained injuries in an accident at KM36 of Jalan Mukah-Selangau today.
The victim has been identified as Moses Pusa, 47, of Rumah Lidum, Sungai Salim, Sibu.
Mukah district police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau said the victim’s car collided head-on with a lorry travelling from the opposite direction at about 6am.
“The lorry was on its way from Bintulu to Sibu carrying fertilizer. It is believed that the car suddenly swerved to its right and crashed into the lorry,” he said.
The car driver was killed on the spot while his 36-year old wife suffered heavy injuries to her legs and had fallen unconscious.
Jimmy added that the four children of the couple, consisting of two girls and two boys, suffered light injuries only. All of them have been referred to Sibu Hospital.
“The 36-year old driver of the lorry was unhurt,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act. — DayakDaily
