Hawker claims trial to counterfeit money charge

KUCHING, May 6: A hawker, who appealed for anonymity, today pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court, here, to using a counterfeit bank note to purchase a set of cane drinks and participate in a game at a funfair.

Judge Marutin Pagan set May 22 for pre-trial case management and allowed the 35-year-old accused to be released on RM5,000 bail with one local surety.


The accused is charged with using a counterfeit RM100 at a funfair in Siburan on April 29 this year at about 7.11pm.

He is charged under Section 489B of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment that may extend to 20 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

DPP Nor Azhari Yusof prosecuted, while the accused was represented by counsel Roger Chin. — DayakDaily
