SARIKEI, Feb 6: Firemen not only responded swiftly to their core duty when receiving a distress call from the public, they also came to the rescue of a wild animal.

A family at Jalan Pandan was shocked to discover a slow loris, otherwise known as ‘Nycticebus coucang’, in their washroom this morning.

A family member came upon the animal upon entering the washroom, and immediately contacted firefighters for assistance.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mahmudin Narudin said the fire department had received an emergency call from the family regarding the presence of the wild animal at 6.30am.

“Accordingly, four members were immediately deployed to the location. When they arrived at the house, they saw the slow loris wandering about in the toilet.”

Firemen armed with their skill took 10 minutes to catch it before releasing it to the wild, said Mahmudin.—DayakDaily
