KUCHING, Oct 22: Mukah incumbent Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib is confident that she will be able to retain her seat in the coming 15th General Election (GE15) if fielded.
However, she said that will only come true if Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg renominates her for the seat.
“That being said, the final outcome will still lies in the hands of the people of Mukah,” she told DayakDaily in a statement yesterday.
Hanifah noted that there are Members of Parliament (MPs) who have expressed their intentions to step down to give way for new faces, while some would be renominated to defend their seats because they still need to continue their responsibility to the people in their constituencies.
Hanifah served her first-term as an MP after winning the Mukah seat in the GE14 in 2018, against Abdul Jalil Bujang of Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Despite being a newcomer, she managed to garner 66.9 per cent votes in total, beating the Abdul Jalil from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with 7,000 vote majority.
Asked on her outlook for this coming GE15, she is confident she will be able to deliver the voices of the people of Mukah. — DayakDaily
