KUCHING, May 13: The Sessions Court here sentenced a grocery shop owner to six years’ imprisonment and a stroke of the whip for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.
Jaming Gaur, 64, from Kampung Asum, was charged sexually assaulting the victim in his own grocery shop.
Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad today found the accused guilty of the charge after a full trial.
The court also ordered the accused to undergo rehabilitation counseling programme within the period of detention and a supervision order of one year following his release.
He was found guilty of touching the victim’s private parts in his grocery shop located in Kampung Asum, Padawan, at about 6pm on Aug 10, 2020.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children 2017 and punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, on Aug 10, the victim went to the grocery store belonging to the accused with her grandmother.
The victim then went into the store alone to buy some snacks while her grandmother was waiting outside the shop, when the accused suddenly put his hands down her pants.
