KUALA LUMPUR, May 14: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Women’s Wing seeks the unwavering support and sincere understanding of the unity government towards the efforts of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to develop the region.
GPS Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the Premier is working hard to implement various new initiatives to develop Sarawak’s economy and increase its revenue with the approach of ‘reengineering revenue’ and ‘pioneering new economic strategies’.
She mentioned that Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 was launched on July 22, 2021, to ensure Sarawak becomes a developed region by 2030.
“The purpose of PCDS 2030 is in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani, which is based on the values of sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust, and compassion.
“Thus, in the context of realising the ‘Utamakan Sarawak’ or ‘Sarawak First’ policy and fuelling the spirit of PCDS 2030, strong support and channelling of development funds from the unity government to the GPS government is important because it will increase the rate of infrastructure development, the provision and improvement of the quality of basic facilities for the wellbeing of the people such as public facilities, health and safety services, education, social and welfare services, and the eradication of extreme poverty,” she said during Unity Government Women Convention 2023 held at WTC Kuala Lumpur today.
Fatimah, who is also Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), shared the aspirations of GPS Women’s Wing—to give back the best to society.
To achieve the aspirations, the Wing’s focus are to ensure that issues of access, equity and quality of education are dealt with in a comprehensive and integrated manner so that no citizen is entitled, marginalised or left behind; expand women’s opportunity to obtain assistance to increase their participation and involvement in the economic and entrepreneurial fields, and raise awareness among women about various social symptoms that affect the wellbeing of families and people.
The Women’s Wing also aims to increase the quantity and quality of women’s involvement and participation at the decision-making level so that women’s voices and touch in the field of leadership and management can add value to humanity and gender balance that complement and benefit each other, and increase the spirit of social concern among women and expand involvement in various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) so that the welfare and wellbeing of those in need can be dealt with in a comprehensive and integrated manner. — DayakDaily
