KUCHING, Dec 18: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) victory in the 12th Sarawak Election is a sign that the Sarawakians wants political stability.

GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the vote tabulation by the Election Commission (EC) is still ongoing, but the obtained data so far shows that GPS has already secured the required majority to form the government.

“I expect that GPS will be able to achieve more than two-thirds majority tonight. This means that GPS policies are accepted and understood by the people and they are giving full support that they want a strong government.

“With a strong government, we will be able to continue our efforts to fight for and protect Sarawak’s rights as enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report of which have been passed in Parliament recently,” he said at a press conference held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight.

Abang Johari further said that he believed more seats are coming in favour of GPS.

“And that will give the message that political stability is important for us to run Sarawak,” he added.

Earlier, Abang Johari in his speech emphasised that the people’s mandate will empower GPS to continue pursuing sustainable economic development as well as social policies that prioritize the people.

“It also signals the importance of the inclusion of all races in our State’s development towards 2030 regardless of ethnic and religious differences,” he said.

He also called on his fellow comrades in GPS to deliver their responsibilities and manifesto promises, and thus achieving the status of a developed State and high income status by 2030. — DayakDaily
