SIBU, Nov 7: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P211 Lanang, Wong Ching Yong today revealed the development of Phase One Jalan Kong Yit Khim is part of the RM1 billion in funding that he will fight for if he is elected to represent the seat.

“The ex-YB for the constituency in her ‘ceramah’ last night questioned how can I manage to come out with RM1 billion in projects.

“One of my projects is to upgrade and widen Jalan Kong Yit Khim from two-carriageway to four to make it into a highway costing RM180 million for phase one,” he said at a press conference here today.

Wong who is also the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Dudong chairman said the project was announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg two years ago.

He said the 24km-long road project which previously was known as Jalan Stabau is very important as it will eventually connect to Durin, Kapit, Kanowit, Bintangor and Sarikei.

Once completed, he anticipates that the price of property in the vicinity will shoot up.

“The second phase starts from the intersection to the Durin Bridge and it needs funds for implementation. That is one of the reasons why I want that much allocation (RM1 billion).

“The Chinese government says that if you want to become rich, you have to construct roads. I think our State Government is doing exactly the same,” he said.

Wong hoped through this explanation he had answered incumbent MP Alice Lau’s doubts and requested her to list her development plans to show the Sibu community.

Wong also disclosed that he will continue to fight for the construction of SK Dudong.

Among those present at the press conference were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, and Dudong SUPP’s deputy chairman Kelvin Kong, and secretary Kapitan Kong Sing Ping. — DayakDaily
