MIRI, Nov 7: Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (GPS-SUPP) candidate for P219 Miri, Cr Jeffery Phang, believes that both conventional methods and social media platforms are essential in engaging with constituents.

Phang, 48, disclosed during a press conference here today that both approaches help disseminate information regarding election candidates.

“For this election campaign, apart from the conventional way of campaigning, I’m also incorporating social media in my political campaign to reach a wider audience, especially young voters,” he said.

Although social media is widely used in today’s digital age, Phang said, he would also continue with conventional or physical campaigning such as going to the ground to meet constituents.

He added that a video with information on his election manifesto for P219 Miri would be launched tomorrow.

SUPP president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian is expected to launch the video in Miri tomorrow.

According to Election Commission statistics, P219 Miri has a total of 143,229 voters, out of which 40,987 are aged from 18 to 29.

The constituency was represented by Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Michael Teo Yu Keng for the previous two terms.

In the 15th General Election (GE15), P219 Miri will see a three-cornered fight between Phang, Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) Datuk Lawrence Lai who is also a former Miri Mayor, and PKR’s Chiew Choon Man, 31.

For Lai and Chiew, GE15 would mark their electoral debut.

Also present during Phang’s press conference today was SUPP Senadin branch chairman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. — DayakDaily
