KUCHING, Oct 11: Local political pundit Dato Peter Minos predicts that no political party in Peninsular Malaysia will get more than 50 out of the total 222 Parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election (GE15).

He asserted the electoral war in Peninsular Malaysia will be between Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) while other parties will be sandwiched in between.

As no one party will have a convincing majority, he held that Gabungan Parti Sarawak will continue to be the kingmaker.

“It looks that the electoral war in Malaya will be very vicious. It will be a fight to the finish basically between BN, PH and PN.

“PAS (Parti Islam Se-Malaysia), Pejuang (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air) and other small parties will be squeezed in between.

“Who will get the most MP seats, nobody can now say. It is anyone’s guess. None will get more than 50 seats out of 222.

“Whichever party wins the most seats will not be dominant. It will need GPS to form the federal government. It is here that GPS must put up its terms. It is here that GPS will be a ‘kingmaker’,” said Minos in a statement today.

He said Sarawak has no say and no intention to get involved in the politics of Peninsular Malaysia so Sarawakians must focus on GPS.

“If possible, GPS must win all the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak. Given the unity in GPS and its good record of performance, I predict it will do very well,” said Minos.

He asserted that with the “Sarawak First” mood among Sarawakians and with Sarawak’s desire to extricate itself from Malayan politics, Sarawakians will gravitate towards GPS.

“They did just that in the last State election. This will be replicated in this coming GE15.”

Minos added that what matters most for Sarawak now is the full restoration and return of Sarawak’s powers and rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963, getting more funds for development from both the federal government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and making sure that Peninsular Malaysia accords respect, justice and fairness to Sarawak in all areas and aspects and not treat Sarawak like “anak tiri” (stepchild). — DayakDaily
