KUCHING, Nov 19: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Datuk Rubiah Wang retained P197 Kota Samarahan after garnering over three times the total votes collected by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Sarawak chairman Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili.

Rubiah sealed her solid victory with 42,278 votes against Abdul Halil’s 12,833 votes, thus ensuring her third term as the federal constituency’s MP.

“Alhamdulillah that we (GPS) have recorded a good score in Kota Samarahan. This shows the support of Kota Samarahan people towards GPS.

“Moreover, this huge win was contributed by the youths whose votes were leaning towards GPS. Thus, this is a good sign for us to continue our efforts developing Kota Samarahan,” she told the press when met at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) tonight.

There are 82,229 registered voters in the Kota Samarahan constituency.

In the 2018 General Election (GE14), Rubiah collected 25,070 votes against Amanah’s Sopian Julaihi (8,078 votes) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia’s (PAS) Zulkipli Ramzi (2,719 votes). — DayakDaily
