Following the official announcement by Election Commission (EC) Returning Officer Zainab Mazali, the Bandar Kuching incumbent thanked his team and Bandar Kuching constituency voters for their support and pledged to serve them to the best of his abilities.

When met by reporters, Dr Yii said “I am very excited and very humble to be given the opportunity to play my part as the member of parliament.”

The constituency recorded a turnout of 58.40 per cent. Bandar Kuching has 109,710 registered voters.

In the previous 14th General Election (GE14), Dr Yii’s first foray into politics won the Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat with 45,548 votes, defeating SUPP’s Kho Teck Wan, who also ran as a greenhorn for Bandar Kuching on a Barisan Nasional ticket and received 12,575 votes.
