KUCHING, Dec 6: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman will defend his N6 Tupong seat against Ahmad Nazib Johari of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Chan Haong Yen of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) in the 12th Sarawak Election.

The names of candidates were announced by Election Commission (EC) returning officer Salwa Pauzi after the nomination process at Sekolah Menengah Petra Jaya in Kuching today.

Fazzrudin won the Tupong seat under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket against Nurhanim Hanna Mokhsen of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the 2016 Sarawak Election with 8,055 majority votes.

Fazzrudin, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth deputy chief, believed that GPS will be able to retain the seat again which has always been under the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government since 1991. PBB later exited BN to form the GPS coalition in 2018.

Apart from PBB, other component parties of GPS are Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Earlier, Chan is the first candidate to arrive at the Tupong State Legislative Assembly (DUN) nomination centre as early as 8.30am to submit his candidacy form.

This was followed by Ahmad Nazib who arrived at 8.58am while Fazzrudin arrived last at 9.05am. — DayakDaily
