GPS newcomer wins Lingga with 2,273 majority

KUCHING, Dec 18: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor has won the N28 Lingga seat with a 2,273 majority.

The 33-year-old secured her first win in the 12th Sarawak Election with 3,700 votes; defeating Dato Wan from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Independent candidate Mohd Sepian Abang Daud, as both managed to get 1,427 and 880 votes respectively.

Three other contenders namely Baha Iman from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Abg Kassim Abg Bujang from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), and Abang Ahmad Abang Suni from Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) lost their deposit.


Dayang Noorazah was among the 24 new faces fielded by GPS, replacing Lingga incumbent Simoi Peri, who won the seat in the 2016 Sarawak State Election with 4,169 votes, defeating Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh from PKR and an independent candidate Wan Abdillah Edruce Wan Abdul Rahman. ― DayakDaily
