KUCHING, June 9: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is part of the coalition to form the unity government and not a component of Pakatan Harapan (PH), says GPS secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said many people do not understand the difference between being a component party and a coalition partner, with some having the idea that GPS is part of PH.
“If you look into it distantly, we (GPS and PH) are together after the 15th General Election, but we will think about it again in the next election.
“It doesn’t mean we will quarrel (but) we are not a component of PH,” he said in an exclusive interview with DayakDaily here today.
Nanta, who is Malaysian Minister of Works and Kapit MP, further likened the term ‘component’ to parts of a vehicle where a car would need its components such as tyres, steering wheel and headlamp for it to be whole.
He stated that the component parties making up PH are Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Democratic Action Party (DAP), and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Meanwhile, the current Barisan Nasional (BN) is made up of United Malays National Organisation (Umno), the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), and the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC).
On the other hand, GPS is comprised of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“GPS is not a component of PH. When we were in BN (before 2018), we were part of the 14 component parties making up BN. Now we are just a coalition partner to both PH and BN.
“We are willing to work together for this government so that this government will provide political stability and economic recovery for the good of the people,” he added. — DayakDaily
