KUCHING, May 22: The federal government is working to ensure sufficient energy supply nationwide until December, says Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof.

Speaking during the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) monthly assembly in Putrajaya today, he said that Malaysia currently has enough energy supply to last until July, and that efforts are ongoing to source from overseas amid the global supply crisis caused by the conflict in West Asia.

“PETRONAS is working tirelessly to secure supply sources, even if it means going as far as Africa. If these efforts can be finalised, we will be able to guarantee the country’s energy supply until December,” he said, as reported by TVS.

Meanwhile, Fadillah, who is also the PETRA minister, urged the public to help by using energy and water prudently to help reduce pressure on demand, which could help extend energy reserves, strengthen energy security, and mitigate the impact of any global crisis.

At the same time, he acknowledged that rising costs are unavoidable due to global uncertainties.

Nevertheless, he assured that the government is always taking pragmatic actions and measures to ensure it won’t severely impact the people. — DayakDaily
