KUCHING, Nov 14: The decline in demand in the once well-known and iconic local ‘Buah Limau’ Bintangor must be taken seriously by the government, says Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.

Ding blamed the decline on many factors, including stiff competition from other local and imported fruits.

“The stiff competition is further affected by the lack of funding from the relevant authority for this fruit,” he said when debating the Sarawak Budget 2025 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

Ding informed the august House that to ensure the sustainability of this iconic fruit, he had organised a dialogue session between ‘buah limau’ Bintangor planters and the Meradong District Agriculture Department.

He added the dialogue session was to ascertain the difficulties faced by the farmers and find possible solutions to improve the production of Limau Bintangor.

“I also urged the Ministry of Agriculture Sarawak to look into this matter seriously and help to revive the once famous and adorable local fruits that are loved by everyone from near and far,” he said. —DayakDaily.
