Govt to allow special RM10,000 EPF withdrawal, further details to be announced by Finance Ministry

KUCHING, March 16: The government is allowing a special Employees Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawal of RM10,000, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said further details of the scheme will be announced by the Ministry of Finance and that it was introduced due to requests from various parties.

“Based on the findings of a comprehensive study and research in the recovery phase after this pandemic, there are among Malaysian families who are still economically affected, losing income and are rebuilding their lives.

“The government listens, studies and scrutinises requests from all parties to withdraw EPF contributions,” he said in a special press conference today.

Despite it being a difficult decision, Ismail Sabri said the special withdrawal is a middle ground in balancing between today’s urgent needs and future savings.

“Although the government has given permission for this special EPF withdrawal, I appeal to the contributors to maintain their savings unless the situation is really urgent.

“I hope the contributors make due consideration before making a withdrawal, for the sake of the future,” he added.

The government had previously allowed EPF withdrawals through three schemes namely i-Lestari, i-Sinar, and i-Citra amounting to RM101 billion involving 7.34 million contributors since the pandemic. — DayakDaily
