GOF officer declines RM10,000 bribe, arrests duo, seizes contraband worth half a million ringgit

Sarawak General Operations Force (PGA) raided a house in Kuching where they found RM456,988 (including tax) worth of illicit cigarette and liquor.

KUCHING: A leading officer from Sarawak General Operations Force (PGA) turned down RM10,000 bribe from a 67-year-old man who wanted to avoid arrest and seizure of illicit cigarettes and liquor worth RM456,988 today.

Sarawak Brigade Commander SAC Mancha Ata disclosed in a statement that a raid code-named Ops Libas was carried out by a team from Sarawak Brigade Headquarters and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Agency (MACC) at a house in Kuching, at about 11am.

“During the raid, they discovered 1,500 cartons (300,000 sticks) white cigarettes and 1,040 cartons (166,400 sticks) kretek cigarettes worth RM361,488; and 150 crates of beers from various brands worth RM25,500 stored in the house, as well as in a Toyota Unser MPV parked at the porch.

A 30-year-old local man who works as a caretaker of the house was also arrested.

“While officers were inspecting the items, the 67-year-old man came to the house and informed that he is the owner of the good. He tried to persuade our leading officer by offering RM10,000 despite being given a warning,” Macha said.

The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM456,988 (including tax) while the vehicle is estimated at RM60,000.

The caretaker and seized items were handed over to the IPD Kuching, while the owner was handed over to the MACC for further action.- DayakDaily
