KUCHING, Aug 14: Sarawak’s homegrown e-wallet platform, SPay Global, formerly known as Sarawak Pay, is growing and not fading out, says Sarawak Economic Planning Unit (EPU).
It added that there are approximately 700,000 users and 90,000 merchants registered to SPay Global and wallet size has increased to RM6,000.
“Sarawak has been leading digital transformation in Malaysia and this was very prevalent during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Sarawak Pay, now known as SPay Global, is now a global e-wallet platform in partnership with Union Pay,” said EPU in a written reply to Offseid PLT strategy & sales manager Johan Donough.
During the recently held Sunday Morning with Premier 2.0: Dialogue Session with Young Entrepreneurs on New Economy, Johan inquired about how the Sarawak government is going to ensure that Sarawak-led digital efforts such as SPay Global and QMunity apps do not die out or be replaced by superior solutions over time.
Meanwhile, EPU said the Sarawak government will continue to co-invest in digital initiatives that will have economic, social and environmental impact and foster Sarawak towards becoming a leading Digital Economy and Society by 2030.
It asserted this can be done through the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2023, Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, and partnering with the private sector.
“The Sarawak government is aggressively digitalising its services and developing conducive policies to grow private sector investments and partnerships. This will lead to more private sector in rolling out the initiatives.” — DayakDaily
