KUCHING, March 7: Selangau MP Edwin Banta hopes that Finance Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Prime Minister, and the unity government will provide special financial assistance to the Dayak community in Sarawak so that they can advance.

Edwin stated this when debating Budget 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (March 6).

“The Dayak community in Sarawak would have a lot of hope if the Finance Minister and the unity government could consider channeling special financial assistance to the Dayak community to help them advance.

“First, financial assistance for traders, entrepreneurs, contractors, and modern farmers.

“Second, adding allocations or grants to Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in order to provide loans for the construction of new longhouses or the renovation of existing longhouses to ‘decent dwelling’ standards, with permission,” he said.

He said the third special finance assistance would be to give the Sarawak government special grants to measure native customary rights (NCR) land in order to further property ownership.

“Fourth, provide financial assistance to students who wish to continue their studies at public universities (IPTA) and private institutions/universities (IPTS) in Peninsular Malaysia, and fifth, provide financial assistance to Sarawak mission schools,” the Selangau MP added. — DayakDaily
