SIBU, March 27: A five-year-old girl, who was bitten by a dog three weeks ago, died at 9.40pm yesterday at Sibu Hospital.

According to a report on Infor Sibu Facebook page, the victim, Abbiera Mia Alexson, was “bitten by a dog on March 9” at her family home at Jalan Sentosa.

Sibu Hospital acting director Dr Muhammad Ng Siah Huat, when contacted today, said the victim died due to suspected rabies.

“She was admitted to the hospital on March 8 and was treated for injuries on her face and eyelids until March 13 when she was discharged,” he said.

However, her family sent her back to the hospital on March 24 after she was believed to have symptoms of rabies.

Dr Muhammad Ng said the victim died at 9.40pm the same day of readmission (March 26). Her body has been claimed by her family today.

“We have taken sample of her blood and have also sent it to a lab in Kuala Lumpur for testing. The result is expected to be known later,” he said. — DayakDaily
