KUCHING, Feb 19: German President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Budenbender, managed to visit three iconic tourism spots in Sarawak in their one-day working visit here yesterday (Feb 18).

Right after they arrived at Kuching International Airport (KIA) at about 10.54am, the entourage took off to the 500-metre-long Esplanade Telaga Air.

From there, they travelled on boats to the Kuching Wetlands National Park in Petra Jaya, located approximately 5 kilometres from Damai Beach.

They were accompanied by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

At the Kuching Wetlands National Park, the German couple were led on a tour to see the Terenggas Forest and invited to plant saplings to commemorate their maiden visit.

Steinmeier planted the ‘Mersawa Kunyit’ tree sapling while his wife worked on the ‘Bintangor Madu’ pineapple sapling.
