Gerigat Cluster in Kabong and Sg Parik Cluster in Sri Aman identified; 80 clusters still active

KUCHING, May 39: The State Health Department (JKNS) announced two new Covid-19 clusters today, dubbed as the Gerigat Cluster in Kabong and Sungai Parik Cluster in Sri Aman.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today, the Gerigat Cluster was identified as a community cluster involving a village in Gerigat, where the infection spread through social visiting activities during the Hari Raya celebration.

“A total of 358 individuals have been screened, where 20 cases were found positive for Covid-19, including the index case, 12 were negative, and 326 other cases still waiting for laboratory test results.

“All positive cases have been referred to Saratok Hospital, and admitted to the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC) in Betong division for further monitoring and treatment,” it said.

Meanwhile, SDMC said the Sungai Parik Cluster is also a community cluster, which involved four localities in Sungai Parik in Lingga and Tanjung Bijat in Sri Aman.

“A total of 130 individuals have been screened, where 24 positive cases were detected, including the index case. Seven other cases were negative, while 99 others were still awaiting test results,” the committee added.

On the same note, SDMC said JKNS also announced the end of the Consortium Bumi Cluster in Kuching, after zero new cases reported in the past 28 days in the cluster.

As of today, a total of 80 clusters remain active throughout the State, with three clusters recording five additional new cases. — DayakDaily
