KUCHING, July 1: The business licence of the travel agency involved in the recent Genting Highlands bus crash would be revoked immediately if any violations are found, says Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

He said according to preliminary investigations, the bus driver, who is currently detained by the police, had accumulated 27 traffic violation fines, including for driving without a valid licence.

“I have instructed all relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation of the travel agency. If any violations are found, the business licence of the travel agency will be revoked without hesitation,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, said his ministry would convene a special meeting to discuss the maintenance status, safety, and enforcement measures of tour buses in the market.

He said the ministry would collaborate with various relevant departments including the Ministry of Transport and the police in this initiative.

“Currently, all departments are working hard to collect related information, and we expect further updates at the special meeting on July 2, including follow-up actions,” he said in a statement yesterday (June 30).

Meanwhile, Tiong asserted that the safety of passengers is paramount, and the ministry will not tolerate anyone disregarding laws and regulations or endangering lives.

The bus crash at about 11am on Saturday (June 29) was reported to have killed two China nationals and injured 13 other tourists after the vehicle skidded and hit a road divider. — DayakDaily
