KUCHING, July 1: Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) will contest in all eight Malay/Melanau majority seats in the coming 15th General Election (GE15) without competition from other Opposition parties in Sarawak.
Its president, Dato’ Othman Abdillah, said this results from a consensus reached among the party during a discussion held on June 21.
āSpecifically, the seats that will be contested by Sedar are P193 Santubong, P194 Petra Jaya, P197 Kota Samarahan, P200 Batang Sadong, P201 Batang Lupar, P206 Tanjung Manis, P207 Igan and P213 Mukah,ā he said in a statement today.
Othman noted the remaining 23 parliamentary seats in Sarawak would be contested by only one candidate from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB), Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) in certain seats according to the agreement reached.
āAll parties have agreed to contest under their own logo, and at the same time, they also united to mobilise their machinery in each constituency to assist the contesting parties,ā he added.
Meanwhile, Othman said Sarawak-based Opposition parties are confident that they are the best option to represent Sarawakians’ interests in Parliament.
He pointed out that history has shown that representatives of parties from outside of Sarawak are more focused on their political interests.
āThey have repeatedly failed to win the hearts of Sarawakian voters. Moreover, the people have also been deceived by their manifesto in the previous 14th General Election (GE14),ā he said. ā DayakDaily
