SIBU, Oct 23: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) will rely on ‘ceramah’ (public speeches), and social and mainstream media to reach the youth and the masses.
Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen to a question on DAP’s campaigning approach during 15th General Election (GE15) as compared to the last State election, said that the party will continue to use social media and mainstream media to carry their message across.
“We must alter our campaign methods and keep up with the changes, especially among the youth. So, we will continue to use social media but we will also use mainstream media.
“In social media, we find that there are a lot of fake news by being circulated from irresponsible sources, so I think more people are confident with what is reported in the mainstream media and also news portals because these are the more responsible entities,” he said.
However physical campaigning through ‘ceramah’ would be their main method, stressed Chong.
Meanwhile, Sibu DAP has launched its operation room as it shifts into full gear for GE15.
The operation room in Rajang Park Commercial Centre for both its Sibu and Lanang candidates, Oscar Ling and Alice Lau respectively, was launched by Chong.
Afterwards, Ling said they need to start preparing their election machinery now so that by nomination day on Nov 5, they would be fully ready for the election.
“We have roughly one month before polling. So, within this one month, we will continue to work hard to make sure our message can spread out and make sure people come out (to vote) especially the young people as they will be the kingmakers in the coming GE.
“There have 6 million first-time voters in this coming GE nationwide so we hope they will all come out (to vote). I know many of them are still pondering whether to come out or not to vote but we need to let them know that this coming election is very important. This election is about their future,” he said.
Ling added that if all the young voters exercise their right to vote they will be an “unstoppable force” in GE15.
Among those present at the launching were DAP stalwart, Lim Kit Siang, and former Bukit Assek assemblywoman, Irene Chang. — DayakDaily
