GE15: Anyi Ngau retains Baram, GPS now has 23 seats

KUCHING, Nov 21: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) Dato Anyi Ngau retains P220 Baram in the 15th General Election (GE15), increasing the total seats won by the coalition to 23.

The parliamentary seat was the last seat to have its official results out after its voting process on Nov 19 was postponed to today due to bad weather.

According to Election Commission’s (EC) official website, Anyi polled 18,399 votes, leaving behind Roland Engan of Pakatan Harapan (PH), who is also his nephew, who polled 11,060 votes.

Meanwhile, Independent candidate Wilfred Entika Rebai secured only 324 votes, losing his deposit in the process.

With a 7,339 majority, Anyi, who is of Kenyah descent, will continue to serve the parliamentary constituency for the third term.

There are 59,535 registered voters in the Baram constituency.

Under P220 Baram, there are three State constituencies, namely N76 Marudi held by Datuk Datu Penguang Manggil, N77 Telang Usan — Dennis Ngau, and N78 Mulu — Datuk Gerawat Gala.

Anyi is a member of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), a component party of GPS alongside Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS). — DayakDaily
