KUCHING, June 7: A gathering at a longhouse in Sibu on Gawai eve has triggered a new Covid-19 cluster dubbed the Sungai Durin Cluster which has infected 22 people so far.
According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Sungai Durin Cluster is a community cluster which involved a few villagers gathering at longhouse for Hari Gawai Dayak on the evening of May 31.
SDMC said the longhouse has been placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Presently, a total of 52 people from the longhouse have been screened for Covid-19, with 22 testing positive and rest testing negative.
SDMC said all Covid-19 patients from the longhouse have been referred and admitted to Sibu Hospital as well as a quarantine and low-risk treatment centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment.
Meanwhile, the Sungai Durin Cluster is one of four new Covid-19 clusters identified by the State Health Department today.
The other three new clusters are the Jalan Airport Cluster in Miri, Jalan Ilmu Cluster in Miri and Jalan Masket Cluster in Sebauh.
However, there were three Covid-19 clusters declared ended today, comprising the Abok Bon Cluster in Subis, Ulu Anap Cluster in Tatau and the Singgahsana Lodge Cluster in Kuching.
Currently, there are a total of 77 clusters which are still active in Sarawak, with 13 of them reporting 89 new cases today. — DayakDaily
