Proximity between workers and visitors at Jalan Ilmu premises leads to 24 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, June 7: Twenty-four workers and visitors of a food and entertainment premises at Jalan Ilmu have tested positive for Covid-19, resulting in a workplace cluster called the Jalan Ilmu Cluster.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 update said a total of 242 individuals linked to the Jalan Ilmu Cluster have been screened.

“Of these, 24 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 208 negative and 10 are still awaiting laboratory results,” SDMC disclosed in its statement.

All positive cases from the cluster have been referred and admitted to Miri Hospital and the Miri Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

The Jalan Ilmu Cluster is one of two new workplace clusters detected in Miri today, the second being the Jalan Airport Cluster.

With this, there are presently 12 active clusters in Miri. — DayakDaily
