KUCHING, Jan 7: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has unveiled the Intimate & Ultimate Kuching Gastronomy Guidebook, a publication that captures Kuching’s story through its culinary treasures and diversity, reflecting the harmony of multicultural Sarawak.
In a news report by TVS, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that the guidebook is more than just a collection of recipes, but a celebration of the city’s rich and unique culinary heritage.
“This guidebook tells the story of Kuching through its culinary delights, reflecting our vibrant food culture and creative spirit
“It is part of an initiative to celebrate and promote the city’s rich gastronomy legacy,” he said during the launch event at MBKS Headquarters today.
Produced in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), the guidebook supports Kuching’s recognition as a Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy in 2021.
Also present at the ceremony were Motac secretary-general Datuk Wira Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman and Permanent Secretary to Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datu Sherrina Hussaini.
The guidebook highlights the breadth of Kuching’s gastronomy, from traditional staples like Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee to modern culinary innovations.
It underscores the city’s creativity and commitment to sustainability in preserving its culinary heritage.
“With MOTAC’s support, Kuching’s culinary heritage has not only achieved global recognition but also set the foundation for a sustainable action plan to ensure its preservation and growth,” Wee added. — DayakDaily
