KUCHING, July 4: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, recently shared with city leaders on the council’s ongoing efforts in delivering fast and responsive services to its residents.

At the prestigious by-invitation-only Mayors Forum of the World Cities Summit held in Vienna, Austria, from July 2-4, during the session on ‘Providing Reliable and Efficient Municipal Services’, Wee highlighted MBKS’s ongoing efforts in delivering fast and responsive services to its residents.

He shared how MBKS leverages digital tools such as the iPeople App, which allows residents to report issues and receive updates directly on their mobile devices, enhancing communication and service turnaround time.

He also shared MBKS’s use of weekly Facebook Live town hall sessions, held every Saturday, which created an open channel for two-way dialogue between the council and the community.

Additionally, the iBuyBack App was introduced as a local initiative to promote recycling by connecting households with licensed recyclers, thereby contributing to improved waste management and environmental responsibility.

“Our focus is on being present, being reachable, and responding swiftly to our community’s needs.

“By making communication simple and services reliable, we build trust with our residents and support a more liveable city,” he said.

Wee’s participation at the forum reflects MBKS’s commitment to shared learning and practical urban governance and reinforces Kuching South’s contribution to the global agenda for liveable and sustainable cities.

With the theme ‘Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Local Solutions, Global Impact’, the forum brought together mayors from around the world to exchange practical solutions to urban challenges and strengthen international cooperation.

Jointly organised by Singapore’s Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the forum is a by-invitation-only platform, providing a focused space for mayors to engage in discussions on city management and share on-the-ground experiences that make a tangible difference in people’s lives. — DayakDaily
