SIBU, Sept 19: A man was sentenced to 18 months’ jail and two strokes of the rotan by the Magistrate’s Court here today for criminal breach of trust.
The accused, Lorenzo Ayum Ghani, 25, was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code for the offence.
According to the brief facts of the case, on January 6, 2023, a cashier of a security company located at Laichee Lane discovered that a vault with money had been tampered with.
Two senior cashiers of the company made two calculations of the money. They found that RM60,000 out of RM236,100 kept inside the vault was missing. The money belonged to a local bank.
An internal investigation by the company was subsequently conducted. A CCTV recording captured the accused, who was the vault officer, on November 4, taking the money and hid it in his underwear.
Following that, from January 8, he was absent from work.
After a police report was lodged by the company, the accused was arrested. — DayakDaily
