KUCHING, Sept 17: The fourth suspect in relation to RM 800 million “Jiwa Murni” was released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM50,000 with one surety.
The 44-year-old fourth male suspect, a director of a construction company was arrested by the MACC on Sept 14, at about 6.30pm to investigate on the case in relation to RM 800 million “Jiwa Murni” road construction project.
He was brought before the Magistrates Court on Sept 15 by the MACC to apply for remand to further investigate the case. He was remanded for two days, and the remand expired today.
As the investigation on him is almost complete, therefore MACC DPP S. Thangavelu requested the Magistrate to release him on MACC bail of RM50,000 with one local surety.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi then released him on MACC bail of RM50,000 with one surety.
The said Jiwa Murni project is under the Defence Ministry “Jiwa Murni” programme which involved the upgrading of 10 rural roads in Miri, Ba’Kelalan, Limbang, Kapit and Belaga.
According to the statement by MACC, the roads built under the said project by companies of these two directors were not in accordance with the Public Works Department’s standards.
The case is investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Act 2009.
