RM988.16 mln approved to upgrade abandoned logging roads in Sarawak, says Deputy Premier

KUCHING, May 28: A total of RM988.16 million has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) for the upgrading of 11 abandoned logging road projects across Sarawak, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah revealed that one of the projects—Projek Naiktaraf Bekas Jalan-Jalan Balak di Negeri Sarawak (Fasa IV) in the Sibu Division—has already been completed.

“Currently, seven projects are under construction, while the remaining three are at the pre-contract stage,” he said when delivering his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.

On the upgrading of Jiwa Murni roads, Uggah who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said the federal government has allocated RM84.05 million for four road improvement projects.

“As of today, two roads have been completed, compared to only one reported during the previous DUS sitting.

“The second completed road is Jalan Kuala Mendalam ke Meruyu dan Kampung Kerangan Ma in Limbang,” he added.

The remaining two road projects currently under construction are Jalan Rumah Satu, Kuala Mendalam in Limbang, which has reached 75.98 per cent completion and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025, and Jalan dari Ba’Kelalan ke Simpang Bario, which has recorded 74.70 per cent physical progress and is slated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2025. — DayakDaily
