Four feared lost, one found safe as fishing boat sinks in Tjg Po [UPDATED]

The boat used by four fishermen was reportedly sunk at Tanjung Po water.

KUCHING, Sept 17: One fisherman has been found safe at Pulau Burung, while four other fishermen are still missing after their boat sank in Tanjung Po waters yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said they receive the emergency alert from Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) at 10pm yesterday.

It was understood that one of the victim’s wife had informed APMM that the fishing boat boarded by her husband and four other friends had sunk in Tanjung Po waters.


She also informed that her husband had called her to make a report on the incident before the line was cut off and he was unreachable after that.

All the victims had safety jackets.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated by APMM at 4.21pm.

Firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were later directed to the jetty at Muara Tebas, while APMM have assigned its assets at 10pm to the shipwreck location.
