KUCHING, March 24: Miri, Bintulu, Serian and Sibu recorded a double-digit rise in new Covid-19 infections today as another 141 people across Sarawak have tested positive in the latest 24-hour period.
State Disaster Management Committee, in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that Miri registered the biggest spike in daily cases with 34 cases, out of which six cases were linked to Jalan Merpati Cluster.
This is followed by Bintulu (27), Serian (25 out of which 11 cases were linked to the newly declared Chupak Cluster and three to Semuja Immigration Depot Cluster), and Sibu (17).
Other 12 districts also picked up single-digit cases with Samarahan (9 with one linked to newly declared Chupak Cluster), Kuching (8), Tebedu (6), Tanjung Manis (5 linked to Rajang Cluster), Sarikei (3 out of which two were linked to Tanjung Genting Cluster) while Kanowit, Kapit, Meradong, Mukah, Selangau, Sri Aman and Subis has one each.
This thus increased the state tally of positive cases to 14,655.
SDMC also highlighted that of today’s total cases, 24 people were symptomatic when being screened while 124 cases consisted of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated facilities.
A total of 121 people were identified as close contacts to positive cases while three were imported cases with one from overseas.
Sarawak also recorded 118 recoveries today with 27 patients discharged from Bintulu Hospital, 22 from Sibu Hospital, 20 from Miri Hospital, 19 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 11 from Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kapit, eight from PKRC Betong, seven from Sarikei Hospital, two from PKRC Serian and one each from PKRC Mukah and Limbang Hospital.
Thus, the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak has increased to 11,915 or 81.30 per cent of total positive cases so far. -DayakDaily
