Four arrested in Serian for alleged illegal gambling activities

KUCHING, March 11: Four individual arrested by the police in Serian for being involved in illegal gambling activities in two separate cases, yesterday.

According to Serian District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis in a statement today, the first case involving three local men, was arrested by the police Task Force personnel from Serian district police headquarter (IPD Serian) during a joint “Ops Dadu” raid conducted in a premise in Serian, at about 3 pm.

“After realising the presence of the police, all of the men fled, but police managed to arrest the three individuals and seized the gambling peripherals as case item under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953,” he said.


Aidi noted, on the same day at 5.45 pm, the same team of police also arrested one local man after he was believed to be running an illegal lottery gambling operation in an eatery premise along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman road.

Aswandy said police also confiscated all of his items as case items and he was arrested under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“All arrested individuals were brought to IPD Serian and the case was handed over to the Crimes Investigation Department (CID) for further action,” he added.

Meanwhile, Aswandy said the police will continue to carry out their operation regularly in efforts to curb illegal gambling activities.

“As such, we appeal for the community to continue to channel their information to us on any illegal activities such as illegal gambling,” he said. –DayakDaily.
