KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4: All Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as Parliament staff attending the current Parliament sitting are required to undergo Covid-19 screenings every two weeks until the session ends on December 15.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun in a statement today disclosed he was advised this by Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah as part of measures to prevent Covid-19 infection in the august House.

He added notifications on these Covid-19 screenings will be issued to the MPs by the Parliament administration from time to time.

“Following the recent increase in Covid-19 cases, preventive measures have been and are being taken to ensure that the Dewan Rakyat sitting can be held safely.

“Yesterday, I had the opportunity to contact the health director-general during which he gave advice and opinions on the matter,” he said during the Parliament sitting in Kuala Lumpur today.

His text-of-speech was read out by Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Azhar added MoH also advised all MPs not to hold any feasts or gatherings with a large number of attendees inside or outside the Parliament building.

He asserted all MPs need to strictly comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the National Security Council and MoH if they need to meet physically or gather.

Azhar also pointed out MoH informed him the Parliament building will be ordered to close should Covid-19 cases be detected. — DayakDaily
