Ops Libas nets illicit ciggies worth RM1.2m, male suspect arrested

The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak successfully seized RM2,104,506 (including tax) worth of illicit cigarettes in a raid on Nov 4, 2020.

KUCHING, Nov 4: The General Operations Force (GOF) successfully seized RM2,104,506 (including tax) worth of illicit cigarettes in a raid this morning.

Sarawak GOF commander SAC Mancha Ata disclosed that the operations under ‘Ops Libas’ were made at 9.30am in a house at Lorong Seria Raja, Tabuan Laru.

“During the raid, our team discovered 9,500 cartons (1,900,000 sticks) of cigarettes and 4,217 cartons (694,520 sticks) of kretek which were kept in the house and inside a van parked at the porch. A male suspect who was in the house was also arrested,” Mancha said in a statement.


The seized items and suspect were then handed over to the Kuching district police for further action under Section 135 (1) (D) of the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, as of Oct 4, PGA Sarawak has seized a total of RM33,333,964 worth of illicit goods and properties from 147 cases which also saw the arrest of 407 people including 227 illegal immigrants. — DayakDaily
