KUCHING, Aug 13: Fort Arundell, which was built in 1912, will be restored and upgraded beginning next year by the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA).
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the allocation of RM5 million for Fort Arundell will have multiple benefits for the people of Lubok Antu. It will help preserve the local heritage and serve as a valuable reference for future generations.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh stated that the building would be designated as a heritage structure and serve as a local and international tourist attraction.
He added that the building will be restored and upgraded by 2025.
Mussen remarked while chairing the recent Arundell Fort Conservation and Upgrading Briefing in Lubok Antu.
Immediately following the briefing, the Batang Ai assemblyman returned to the construction site to inspect the project’s progress and monitor the building’s structure to be upgraded.
Also present were SADA special administrative officer Dato Indit Bangai, Sri Aman district officer Richard Ngumbang, Sarawak Museum Department representative Dr Elina, Lubok Antu District Council (MDLA) Community Development and Tourism secretary Tommy Laman, and the Pemanca and Penghulu around Lubok Antu. ā DayakDaily
