KUCHING, Sept 6: Dame Christiana Figueres considers Sarawak’s initiative in implementing the use of natural resources to be exemplary and potentially serving as a global model.
The former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) also praised the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, describing it as a significant contribution to global history.
“In Sarawak, the responsibility is to exercise wisdom and leadership in maximising the use of its abundant natural resources, and also to serve as a role model for the rest of the world.
“The rest of the world is not using natural resources the way Sarawak is. Nor is it being led with the political leadership demonstrated by Sarawak.
“The world needs compelling examples they can be inspired by, because, as humans, we are holding the pen of history,” she said when delivering her special address at the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF) 3.0 held today at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.
She continued by stating that the implementation of the initiative is a significant responsibility that all parties must share.
