KUCHING, April 14: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has passed away at the age of 85.
The news was confirmed by his son-in-law, former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, via Instagram Story.
In his Story, he said Abdullah passed away at 7.10pm today at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Abdullah will be laid to rest in the Warriors’ Mausoleum tomorrow afternoon (Apr 15).
Khairy, in a press conference earlier this evening, said his late father-in-law’s remains will be brought to the National Mosque tomorrow morning to allow members of the public to pay their final respects.
“After zohor prayers, funeral prayers will be held for Pak Lah. After that, he will be laid to rest in the Warriors’ Mausoleum of the National Mosque,” he said, adding that his remains will first be taken to his residence in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
IJN chief executive officer Dr Ezani Taib said Abdullah suffered from multiple organ failure, which led to his death.
Born on Nov 26, 1939, in Bayan Lepas, Penang, Abdullah was Malaysia’s prime minister from October 31, 2003, until April 3, 2009, following the resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. — DayakDaily
