Former DAPSY chief released on good behaviour bond after charged for marking road signs with Chinese characters

KUCHING, March 10: Former Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Kuching chief Ting Ying Ying who was charged for an incident involving monolingual road signs at Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Green Hill in 2020 has been released on bond of good behaviour for one year.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar today released Ting Ying Ying on bond of good behaviour for a year and RM1,000 deposit and one local surety after she pleaded guilty to the charge framed under By-Law 22(1)(a) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By Laws 1999.

Ting was found to have marked the names of the roads in Chinese characters on signboards belonging to Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) without the written permission of the Chief Administrative Officer, at Lebuh Way, Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Green Hill, at about 10.30am on Aug 20, 2020.

She was charged under By-Law 22(1)(a) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By Laws 1999 and punishable under By-Law 22-(2) of the same By-Laws, which carries a fine of RM1,500 for the first offence and further fine of RM 3,000 or imprisonment for nine months for each subsequent offence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim prosecuted while Ting Ying Ying was represented by Counsel Michael Kong. — DayakDaily
