KUCHING, Sept 21: Former five-term assemblyman Datuk Frederick Bayoi Manggi 77, passed away early this morning at his residence in Serian.
Serian MP and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem was among the first people to arrive at Bayoi’s residence to pay their last respects to the late assemblyman.
Bayoi was fielded by Barisan Nasional (BN) in Tarat during the state’s political crisis in 1987 and won the seat.
However, before the last state election, Bayoi quit Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) to contest as an independent but lost to BN direct candidate, John Ilus.
Bayoi was Tarat assemblyman for two terms before moving to Kedup where he served for another three terms. — DayakDaily
