SARIKEI, Sept 21: Certain areas in Sarikei are likely to experience water supply disruption for more than eight hours due to pipe interconnection works along a section of the Pan Borneo Highway project.

The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in a media statement today disclosed that Pan Borneo Highway contractors are due to carry out works connecting the new second stage 500mm high density poly ethylene (HDPE) pipes and third stage 500mm ductile iron cement lined (DICL) pipes concurrently on Sept 23 (Wednesday) from 5pm until 1am on Sept 24 here.

As a result, the department anticipates that water supply to KJD (Mile 4-Mile 16), Pakan (excluding ‘pasar’ areas), Lemayong, Bintangor, Sg Sian, Sg Selidap, Bukit Papit and Lebaan would be affected.

“We expect some areas to experience water interruption for more than eight hours.

“However, JBALB Sarikei and Pan Borneo contractors are on full standby mode and readily available to deploy nine water tankers on a scheduled basis to the affected consumers,” the department revealed.

Thus, the department requested for the public’s patience and cooperation during the implementation of the upgrading works.

It expressed regret for any inconvenience that might arise and will be working closely with the said contractors to minimise the impact of water supply interruption to the public.

It explained that the works were unavoidable to facilitate the smooth construction of the Pan Borneo Highway and the development of better water supply systems.

The department’s social media channels—JBALB Sarawak Facebook and Rakan JBALB Bahagian Sarikei—would be updated regularly to provide updates to the public on the latest progress of the works.

For queries or assistance, contact JBALB Sarikei Division at 085-657980/990 during office hours.

The public may also contact the department through WhatsApp its Divisional Water Engineer (DWE) at 016-8087705, Assistant DWE (ADWE) at 011-12029883 and Assistant Engineer at 019-4895815. — DayakDaily
