MIRI, Sept 24: Eleven firefighters were deployed to combat a new forest fire spread across 80 acres behind the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club golf course.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lopeng fire station chief Terry Robson said they received a report about the fire at 8.20am today.

“As the forest fire near Eastwood is spreading, a team of 10 workers from Pantai Bayu plantation is helping us tackle the situation on the ground.


“This company has its own Emergency Response Team (ERT), so they are of great help to us,” he added.

Bomba’s MI-171 helicopter will assist in the firefighting operations beginning tomorrow morning.
